Mejorando la calidad de la educación superior a través del estudio e implementación de una red inalámbrica de 5G.

INTRODUCTION

The 5G technologies pretend to be the wireless network communication generation that will provide the capacity and reliability that enables the implementation to large-scale telemedicine applications, smart transportation system, local security applications, smart cities and others. It is expected that 5G will be the truly generation that materialize the new concepts as Internet of Things (IoT), Machine to Machine (M2M) and Tactile Internet. Due this reason it is considered that 5G networks will have a major impact in the actual economy and by consequently, in the daily basis.

Due the importance of these topics, the RAPIDO – 5G project emerges. A research project where is develop at Electrical Engineering School at Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá in colaboration with Aalto University and Ericsson Finlandia. This project studies the 5G wireless technologies and aims to develop techniques that contributes with the implementation of 5G wireless systems. Furthermore, RAPIDO – 5G seeks for connect the Panama academy with the local industry and make a strong spreading related to 5G wireless technologies.

PRODUCTS

RAPIDO – 5G project has achieved the following:

  1. Contributions to the implementation of 5G wireless systemsRAPIDO – 5G has made publications in indexed magazines, in local panamanian and international conferences related with digital communications and 5G. For more detail, we would like to invite you the PUBLICATIONS section. Furthermore, this project is currently developing a device prototype that allow caracterize the interference in the electromagnetic spectrum. For the development of this device, Software Defined Radio platforms have been used. To more details, we would like to invite you to the SDR section.
  2. Industry relation and spreading of topics related with 5G: RAPIDO – 5G has organized discussions, panels and round tables in topics related with 5G. In these events, representants of several telecommunication companies housed in Panama and in Finland have been participated. Furthermore, in these events there have been a participating of the academy in Panama and university students. For more details, we would like to invite you to the EVENTS section. RAPIDO – 5G has contributed in local panamanian and international conferences as well in technical visits to institutions of high level education and labs in Europe. Moreover, this project has created a spanish blog of information about 5G. For more details, we invite you to visit the BLOG section.
  3. Proposal for enhance of UTP wireless network: RAPIDO – 5G is doing scientific studies of the UTP wireless network. The aim is to detect the network fails and improve it. Technological Program Innova Rápido 5g

At the Technological University of Panamá, in the Roberto Barraza Auditorium of the School of Electrical Engineering, a conference about 5G wireless technologies took place. Where, phD. in Digital Communications and Digital Signal Progressing, Héctor Poveda talked about the research project “Improving the quality of higher education through the study and implementation of a 5G wireless network” which is funded by SENACYT.

The augmentation of the data transfer speed is in the hands of 5G thechnology. At the Technological University of Panama (UTP) we are working on a project that will prepare us for the fifth generation arrival.
